While we both know any wiring method can be made dangerous in the wrong hands, also a car, a gun, just about anything can be dangerous in the wrong hands, this is why we need state wide licensing, and state wide codes. of which Indiana, Illinois both doesn't have well Indiana does have state wide building codes, this would go much further in making sure qualified electricians is who does the work, and a trail to go after when things doesn't get done the code way.

But we must not blame the wiring method, it not it fault it was poorly done. we must not put everyone in a padded cell as our Constitution was never designed to protect us from us, although there are some who might need it, we have had enough of our rights taken from us, most all wiring methods are safe when installed to code, where will this stop shall we ban parachuting, hang gliding, skiing, foot ball, driving a car, motorcycle riding, all of these can be dangerous but we are allowed to enjoy our life even if some of the things we enjoy are dangerous, romex has been around for a long time, and I have seen some of the worst installs out there, but I also know requiring a conduit wiring method can drive the price of a job up to the point that a home owner will skip hiring an electrician and getting a job permitted, just to save a buck, I would much rather see him elect to hire a qualified electrician which will get permits and do the job correctly to code which will be much more safer then the other way, here in North West Indiana, we have had certain areas where inspectors tried to force the use metal conduit wiring methods, they were causing many homeowners to look to other methods to get the job done with out permits, here in Indiana inspectors cant legally require things that conflict with the state code even though some still do try, I know Chicago has its own electrical codes, but I have also seen where many areas outside of Chicago has relaxed a bit to allow NM type wiring methods.
We are still allowed to drive motorcycles, but they are very dangerous on todays roadways, and so many are killed each year, but would you like to see them banned? I would hope not, this goes for many things we like to do, lets not allow our self to be put in a padded cell, or allow laws or codes to do the same, Lets keep America Free!
