It’s Not My Job…
When I am out on service calls, especially the commercial calls, where there are employees I tend to observe them while they work.It never ceases to amaze me how many simple things people won’t do because it s not their job.As long as it doesn’t effect your duties what is it going to hurt to help a fellow employee out a little bit.
Here is a simple example,I was at a fast food place the other day and noticed a employee there having lunch. When she got up and walked past me a napkin fell off her tray(which she saw)and fell to the floor.Did she pick it up?NO!She just kept right on walking.
I just could not keep my mouth shut so I spoke up and mentioned she dropped the napkin. She politely told me that she was on break and the other employee working the dinning room would clean it up!I thought to myself “holy crap”.
I see this all over the place-people that don’t care enough about their jobs,or themselves(pride)-to take 30 seconds to help keep their place of employment clean.
When I worked in job site construction…
I saw the same thing in workers amongst their coworkers from the same trade or company.
At the end of the day when everyone one was cleaning up there were always a few that didn’t have much to pick up.So they would finish their thing then go stand by the job box or front door and wait till everyone else was done before they could leave. Why couldn’t they help a coworker finish clean up?After all, nobody was able to leave till the job was clean.Another thing that can be done is-clean as you go-don’t wait till the end of the day.Your getting paid for it either way!
Every Day I See This.I really want to know why people do this!
Help the other guy out for crying out loud!
To Your Success,
